G1 Climax 2008 Participants *Updated* 6 July, 2008

Old news maybe to some, but its about time the International post go up in number, and this is a good place to start. With puroresufan.com as a source I’ll try and keep you, the RWW readers, up-to-date with the big annual tournament from New Japan Pro-Wrestling. The current line up is as follows:

Block A:
1. Hiroshi Tanahashi
2. Manabu Nakanishi
3. Wataru Inoue
4. Giant Bernard
5. Togi Makabe
6. Shinjiro Otani
7. Satoshi Kojima
Block B:
1. Hiroyoshi Tenzan
2. Yuji Nagata
3. Shinsuke Nakamura
4. Hirooki Goto
5. Toru Yano
6. Toshiaki Kawada
7. Yutaka Yoshie
This years tournament promises to be yet another classic, with some of NJPW’s top stars competing in it alongside three big name outsiders (including the legendary Kawada). There is still yet to be the 7th participant of Block A to be announced. It’s worth noting that this year there is an absence of the reigning IWGP Heavyweight Champion, a title currently held by All Japan’s Keiji Mutoh. Though as said, there is still one participant to be announced and that could still be either the champ, or maybe yet another outsider – we’ll have to wait and see about that.
With the current participants, I think the returning Hiroshi Tanahashi (former 2-time IWGP Heavyweight and last years G1 winner) will be looking to come back strong and win the tournament, which will give him a chance to not only be a 2-time G1 winner, but also will give him a shot at whoever is the champ post-Nakanishi Vs. Mutoh. Tanahashi has proved he’s got all the tools to go far, after all he has already won this years New Japan Cup and was a finalist in AJPW’s Champions Carnival.
Though Tanahashi is my current prediction, there is so much talent with a whole lot to prove in the current line up. You’ve got the current contender for the belt, Nakanishi, who’s been on an epic roll of late, cutting down all competition in his path. Since Tenzan’s return he’s yet to grab something big, so winning yet another G1 would give him that main event boost he must be looking for. You’ve got the young Goto, who’s shown so so much promise, but perhaps not been able to capitalise in the best way just yet, though is on course to be getting that big win he deserves. Let’s also not forget the former champion Nakamura will be on the hunt to getting his title back, after the expecting long reign was cut short as the once supernova was beaten by the legend that is Mutoh. With so much talent as said, and a few dark horses (Makabe, Yano and the always viable Kawada for example) this is going to be yet another interesting and unpredictable G1 Climax.
IceChris is likely to write his opinions at a later date, but if you wish to add comments, please don’t be afraid to do so – just go ahead and post your thoughts and opinions on everything G1!
Thanks.
WWE Night Of Champions Preview & Results 29 June, 2008

This weekend, Dallas hosts WWE’s Night of Champions PPV. Every match is a title match! Here at Real World of Wrestling, we outline the card and Lead Writer El Santolly and Editor IceChris lay out their predictions for this weekends event. This show will be the first PPV to count towards the Real World of Wrestling prediction league. Feel free to play along by adding your picks to the comments area below.
WWE Women’s Championship – Mickie James (C) vs Katie Lea Burchill
IceChris – “We’ve seen little of Katie Lea in the ring, but I feel there is a chance she’ll steal a win, maybe through interference from her brother, Paul.”
El Santolly – “Mickie James hasn’t had as good of a win/loss record as of late, despit ebeing the title holder. I don’t think this is gonna be an easy match for either individual, and the lesser known Katie Lea could use the age old element of suprise as to what’s in her arsenal move-wise. However, I do believe the WWE Womens Champion is going into the PPV with something to prove and will find a way to hold on to her title at Night of Champions.”
WINNER – Mickie James
United States Championship – Matt Hardy (C) vs Chavo Guerrero
IceChris – “Matt Hardy will be hoping to start off strong on his new brand so I reckon he’ll come out hard and retain the title.”
El Santolly – “As much of a thorn in the side that La Familia is, I can see Matt Hardy overcoming the odds and as Chris says, start off strong on his new brand to retain his title this Sunday.”
WINNER – Matt Hardy
WWE Tag Team Championship – The Miz & John Morrison (C) vs Finlay & Hornswoggle
IceChris – “The Miz & John Morrison have developed one hell of a partnership over the past few months defeating established superstars like Kane and CM Punk, so I expect them to find a way to retain, even if it is through devious means.”
El Santolly – “Considering the unlikeable duo of Miz & Morrison started as nothing more than a makeshift team that got lucky, they’ve gone from strength to strength over the past months to have a good reign as WWE Tag Team Champions. A reign that I feel will continue after this Sunday has passed.”
WINNER – Miz & Morrison
World Tag Team Championship – Cody Rhodes & Hardcore Holly (C) vs Ted DiBiase & TBA
IceChris – “As Vince McMahon loves to say, “Its all about the monayyyy!”, and thats why Ted DiBiase can afford virtually any partner he wishes, and thus will be walking out of NoC with the belts.”
El Santolly – “We have yet to see what the son of the Million Dollar Man can truely do inside the ring in the WWE, but he sure as hell is confident enough! Confidence is always key, however over-confidence can easily backfire. But I agree with IceChris and can see whoever the junior Ted DiBiase chooses (or buys) as a Tag partner wont be a schmuck. I wouldn’t be shocked to see a former Tag champion who’s been there and done that in Ted’s corner at NoC, but we’ll have to see about that. Either way, my money is on ‘the money’.”
WINNER – Ted DiBiase & Cody Rhodes
ECW Championship – Kane (C) vs Big Show vs Mark Henry
IceChris – “The Big Red Machine Kane has a tough fight on his hands, and no-one is stronger than the Worlds Strongest Man Mark Henry, who will no doubt win his first ECW Championship.”
El Santolly – “As soon as this 3-Way was announced, I put my bet on Mark Henry. He’s already destroyed the champ and I believe this first big title run as ECW Champion is something he’s hungry for and it’s gonna be all about who wants it most at the PPV.”
WINNER – Mark Henry
World Heavyweight Championship – Edge (C) vs Batista
IceChris – “The ‘Ultimate Opportunist’ Edge has backing from La Famila and has shown that he’ll do anything to retain the World Heavyweight Championship, so I expect him to find a way to retain.”
El Santolly – “Edge has beaten Batista before and I fully expect him to weasel a ways into doing the same again. However, I have a strong inkling that Edge may get straightened out and not be the champ by nights end, and we could very well be seeing the World Heavyweight title return home to Raw. That’s if assuming my inkling is worth something here.”
WINNER – Edge
WWE Championship – Triple H (C) vs John Cena
IceChris – “The move to Smackdown will have no doubt shaken Triple H’s psyche before this key fight, and so I predict John Cena will capitalise on this to bring the WWE Championship back to the Raw brand.”
El Santolly – “Usually, every day of the week I would say John Cena. But never forget, there’s a reason the champ was branded ‘Cerebral Assassin’. It’s this reason, I’m gonna say Triple H will some how find a way to topple this months (so far) top ranked WWE competitor.
WINNER – Triple H
